LPG Price Hike and Commercial Cylinder Shortage Trouble Hyderabad Hotels During Ramadan

Hyderabad | March 7, 2026 | DeccanLive.com

Hotels and businesses in Hyderabad are facing serious difficulties during the holy month of Ramadan due to rising LPG prices and a shortage of commercial gas cylinders.

According to industry sources, global gas supply has been affected due to the ongoing conflict in West Asia, which has led to disruptions in the availability of commercial LPG cylinders. As a result, hotel owners and small businesses in Telangana, especially in Hyderabad, are struggling to manage their daily operations.

Recently, the central government also approved an increase in LPG prices across the country. The price of a 14.2 kg domestic LPG cylinder has increased by ₹60 after March 1. In Delhi, the price has risen from ₹853 to ₹913, while in Hyderabad it has reached ₹965. In Mumbai, the price has increased from ₹852.50 to ₹912.50.

At the same time, the price of 19 kg commercial LPG cylinders has increased by ₹115, adding more financial pressure on hotels, restaurants, and other commercial establishments.

Supply Shortage in Telangana

Industry sources say that Telangana requires around 7 to 7.5 lakh commercial LPG cylinders every month. However, due to disruptions in international supply chains, gas availability has dropped significantly.

Private gas distributors usually keep only two to three days of stock, and those reserves are now close to running out. Government oil companies still have eight to ten days of stock, which is being used to maintain limited supply.

Under current central government guidelines, LPG supply is being prioritized for domestic consumers, while commercial and industrial users are facing restricted supply.

Officials from the Telangana LPG Distributors Association said that the available stock is being first allocated to essential services, including hospitals, hostels, universities, and other important institutions.

Ramadan Adds to Concerns

The situation has become more serious during Ramadan, as Hyderabad is known for its large number of hotels, restaurants, and food stalls that serve people during Iftar and Sehri.

Due to the gas shortage and rising costs, many hotel owners are finding it difficult to continue normal operations. Some businesses are even considering alternative cooking options such as wood, diesel, or electric stoves.

The Telangana government has allowed shops and hotels to remain open throughout the night during Ramadan so that people observing fasts can easily shop and buy food after sunset.

However, the shortage of commercial gas cylinders and rising prices are making it challenging not only for hotel owners but also for residents who rely on these outlets for Iftar and Sehri arrangements.

Business groups and hotel associations have urged the government to take immediate steps to restore gas supply and ensure that both businesses and the public do not face further difficulties during the holy month.
