Tensions in the Middle East have sharply escalated after Israel confirmed carrying out missile strikes on Iran. Loud explosions were reported in Iran’s capital Tehran, with smoke seen rising from several areas.
According to international news agencies, missiles reportedly hit areas near University Road in Tehran, while blasts were also heard in other parts of the city. Iran’s Fars news agency reported that at least three locations in Tehran were struck.
Eyewitnesses said multiple explosions occurred one after another, creating panic among residents. Iranian media stated that authorities are still assessing the nature of the explosions and the extent of the damage. Full details have not yet been released.
Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz confirmed the attack, saying Israel had targeted Iran. However, he did not provide details about the reasons behind the strike or the specific targets.
Israel’s Channel 12 reported that the operation was a joint strike carried out by Israel and the United States, though there has been no official confirmation from Washington.
Several Iranian social media accounts claimed that the residence and office of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei were among the targets. However, there has been no official confirmation or denial of this claim so far.
Shortly after the strikes, warning sirens were heard in Israel, indicating concerns about possible retaliation from Iran.
Following the attack, a travel advisory was issued for Pakistani citizens currently in Iran, urging them to avoid unnecessary movement.
The strikes came shortly after US President Donald Trump called on Iran to stop uranium enrichment, saying he was not satisfied with Iran’s position in ongoing discussions. He had stressed the need to prevent the production of materials that could be used for nuclear weapons.
Trump’s remarks had raised concerns about possible US military action against Iran. However, Israel appears to have launched the missile strikes first.
Meanwhile, several countries have advised their citizens to leave Iran as soon as possible amid rising tensions in the region.
The situation remains tense, with the international community closely watching developments.
