A late-night incident in Bahadrabad area of Haridwar has sparked controversy after a 22-year-old truck driver alleged that he was attacked because of his religious identity. A counter complaint filed by the accused has further complicated the case.

According to the first complaint, Firoz, a resident of Mansoorpur in Sambhal, had parked his truck near a hotel in Bahadrabad on the night of the February 22. Some youths were reportedly drinking there. Firoz alleged that a few intoxicated men approached him and asked for his name. When he told them his name, they realized he was a Muslim and allegedly began beating him severely.

Firoz claimed that he called the police emergency number 112 during the incident. Injury marks from belts and sticks were visible on his body, which were also mentioned in the medical report. Based on his complaint, an FIR was registered against Ankur Chauhan.

However, several questions have been raised:

  • Did the police reach the spot immediately after the 112 call?
  • Why has the CCTV footage and 112 call record not been made public?
  • Were medical tests of both the victim and accused conducted on the same night?
  • If the incident took place on the February 22, why was the FIR registered only on the February 24?

In a counter complaint, Ankur Chauhan and his associates claimed that they were having dinner at a hotel around 12:10 AM when the truck driver parked his vehicle nearby. They alleged that two of Ankur’s friends were urinating in an empty space when the truck driver started abusing them. They further claimed that the driver attempted to run the truck over them and attacked them with a sharp weapon, injuring two youths who were later taken to hospital.

This version has also raised several questions:

  • If Firoz tried to run over them, how did he suffer serious injuries himself?
  • Did police reach the spot immediately?
  • Which hotel was open at midnight, and why were people allegedly urinating outside?
  • Where are the two injured youths and their medical reports?
  • Why was their complaint also registered after two days?

Haridwar SSP Navneet Bhullar stated that so far no evidence linking the incident to religion has emerged during the investigation. However, questions are being raised over whether conclusions are being drawn too early.

Police say they have taken written statements from both sides and the investigation is ongoing. However, critics argue that clarity is still lacking on who the victim is and who the accused are.

The case continues to raise serious concerns about law enforcement response and transparency.
