The campaign for the Telangana municipal elections has come to an end, bringing silence to the streets after days of loudspeakers and intense political activity. With campaigning officially closed, the countdown to polling has begun.

Voting will be held on February 11 from 7 am to 5 pm across 116 municipalities and 7 municipal corporations in the state. The counting of votes is scheduled for February 13.

A total of 12,993 candidates are contesting in 2,996 wards, while more than 52 lakh voters are expected to decide their fate. Among the voters, around 26 lakh are women and 25 lakh are men.

To ensure free and fair elections, the State Election Commission has made strong arrangements. This time, advanced technology is being widely used to monitor the polling process. All 8,203 polling stations across the state will have 100 percent webcasting facilities for live monitoring.

As the elections are being conducted through ballot papers, authorities have prepared and distributed around 16,301 ballot boxes to polling stations. After voting ends, the ballot boxes will be shifted to strong rooms, where round-the-clock security will be maintained.

On the security front, nearly 25,000 police personnel have been deployed across the state. Officials have identified 1,900 sensitive and 1,400 highly sensitive polling stations, where additional security measures, including CCTV surveillance, have been put in place.

To prevent any untoward incidents during the election period, liquor shops have been ordered to remain closed in the polling areas.

The State Election Commission has appealed to voters to participate in large numbers and exercise their democratic right responsibly.
