Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy on Monday said that the upcoming municipal elections in the state are witnessing a three-way contest. He urged voters to think carefully about the future and vote responsibly.
Speaking to the media at his residence in Jubilee Hills, Revanth Reddy questioned the BJP’s focus on Prime Minister Narendra Modi during municipal election campaigns.
“What connection does Prime Minister Modi have with municipal elections?” the Chief Minister asked. He also questioned whether the BJP-led Central government had approved any major projects for Telangana during its 12 years in power.
Revanth Reddy recalled that Prime Minister Modi had earlier promised to declare the Palamuru-Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Project as a national project but failed to follow through. “Instead of talking about unfulfilled promises, BJP leaders are asking people to vote by showing Modi’s face,” he said.
Referring to the previous GHMC elections, the Chief Minister said BJP leader Bandi Sanjay had promised that losses caused by floods would be compensated by bringing funds from the Centre. “People believed that promise and elected 50 BJP corporators. Later, when questioned, he changed his statement and said insurance would cover the losses,” Revanth Reddy alleged.
Allegations of injustice to southern states
The Chief Minister accused the BJP government of doing serious injustice to southern states, including Telangana. He said BJP leaders often claim that the Centre has given lakhs of crores of rupees to Telangana.
“However, when I asked the Chief Secretary for clarification, I was told that for every rupee Telangana pays in taxes, the Centre returns only 42 paise,” he said. In contrast, he claimed that Bihar receives ₹6.16 for every rupee paid as tax.
Revanth Reddy questioned why BJP leaders G. Kishan Reddy and Bandi Sanjay never spoke up when Telangana was treated unfairly. “We are not asking for extra funds. We only want our rightful share,” he said, adding that southern states contribute over 40 percent of the Centre’s total tax revenue.
He also alleged that the ITIR project sanctioned for Telangana was cancelled and that a semiconductor project meant for Hyderabad was shifted to Andhra Pradesh due to pressure from the Prime Minister.
Once again questioning the BJP’s campaign approach, Revanth Reddy asked, “Why should people vote in municipal elections by looking at Modi?” He further alleged that BJP leaders depend heavily on religious politics and often use the name of AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi during their campaigns.
