Congress Leader Hidayatullah Patel Stabbed to Death at Akola Mosque, Accused Arrested

Senior Congress leader and Maharashtra Congress Vice-President Hidayatullah Patel passed away on Wednesday morning after being stabbed inside a mosque in Akola district. He was 66 years old.
According to police, the attack took place on Tuesday afternoon when Patel was leaving the Jamia Mosque at Mohalla village in Akot taluka after offering prayers. The attacker reportedly stabbed him in the neck and chest with a sharp weapon, causing heavy bleeding.
Videos that surfaced soon after the incident showed Patel coming out of the mosque covered in blood. Local people immediately rushed him to a private hospital in Akot, where he was admitted to the ICU. Despite doctors’ efforts, he succumbed to his injuries the next morning.
Police said the motive behind the attack appears to be an old personal rivalry. Acting swiftly after the incident, the police formed six special teams and arrested the accused within a few hours.
The accused has been identified as 22-year-old Ubaid Khan Kallu Khan alias Raziq Khan Patel, a resident of Panj village in Akot taluka. He was arrested on Tuesday evening.
Additional Superintendent of Police B. Chandrakant Reddy confirmed the arrest and said that investigation is underway. Following the incident, security has been tightened in Mohalla village and Akot town. District Superintendent of Police Archit Chandak is personally monitoring the situation.
Police have registered a murder case and further inquiry is in progress.
