Hyderabad to Be Split into Three Municipal Corporations, CM Revanth Reddy Hints at Big Decision

Hyderabad is set to be divided into three major municipal corporations by the third week of February, according to strong indications given by Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy. During a review meeting held at the Secretariat on Tuesday, the Chief Minister indirectly informed officials that the process would move forward once the current GHMC governing body’s term ends on February 10.

As part of preparations, the state government has already restructured police commissionerates, signaling that administrative changes are underway. Officials believe this is a clear sign that the government is serious about creating three separate civic bodies.

According to sources, the three proposed corporations will be:

  • Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) – covering areas south of the Musi River along with Secunderabad and Golconda zones
  • Greater Cyberabad Municipal Corporation (GCMC) – comprising Kukatpally, Serilingampally, and Qutbullapur zones
  • Greater Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation (GMMC) – covering Malkajgiri, LB Nagar, and Uppal zones

In line with this plan, the government has appointed Srujana as Additional Commissioner for Kukatpally, Serilingampally, and Qutbullapur zones, and Vinay Krishna Reddy as Additional Commissioner for Malkajgiri, LB Nagar, and Uppal zones. Both officers will work under the supervision of GHMC Commissioner RV Karnan and oversee administration in their respective zones until the new corporations are formally established.

Initially, the government considered forming GHMC only with areas beyond the Musi River. However, concerns over revenue generation and possible political complications from splitting the core city led to a revised plan. With minor changes, the government has now finalized the structure for the three new municipal corporations.

The move is expected to improve urban governance, administration, and service delivery in the rapidly growing Hyderabad region.
