72-Year-Old Sikh Woman Donates Land for Mosque in Punjab, Setting an Example of Communal Harmony

At a time when religious tensions are often in the news, a Sikh woman from Punjab has set a powerful example of unity and humanity by donating her own land for the construction of a mosque.

The incident took place in Jakhwali village of Fatehgarh Sahib district, where the majority of residents are Sikhs, along with Hindu and Muslim families who have lived together peacefully for many years.

The village already has a gurdwara and a temple, but there was no mosque, forcing Muslim residents to travel to nearby villages for prayers. Understanding their difficulty, 72-year-old Bibi Rajinder Kaur decided to donate her 5 marla private land for building a mosque.

Speaking about her decision, Bibi Rajinder Kaur said she was aware of the problems faced by her Muslim neighbours. She added that humanity is greater than religion, and helping others in need is the true service to society.

Following proper legal procedures, the land has now been officially transferred in the name of the mosque committee.

Village sarpanch Manu Singh explained that government land cannot be used for religious buildings, which is why donating private land was the only option.

The mosque committee president, Kala Khan, described the gesture as a shining example of interfaith brotherhood and thanked Bibi Rajinder Kaur along with all villagers for their support.

He also revealed that people from all religions—Sikhs, Hindus, and Muslims—have contributed generously towards the mosque construction. So far, around ₹3.5 lakh has been collected.

Construction work is progressing quickly, and the committee hopes the mosque will be completed by February.

Local residents believe that the new mosque will not only fulfill a long-standing need but also further strengthen communal harmony in the village.
