The All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) has appealed to caretakers (mutawallis) of Waqf properties across the country to immediately approach their respective State Waqf Tribunals for uploading Waqf property details.
The appeal comes after positive and encouraging results were seen in several states where caretakers approached the tribunals under the UMEED Portal process. AIMPLB General Secretary Maulana Mohammed Fazlur Rahim Mujaddidi said that tribunals in many states have granted extensions of time for uploading Waqf property details.
According to him, six months’ extension has been granted in states like Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Tamil Nadu. Kerala received a five-month extension, while Telangana and Rajasthan were given three months. Chhattisgarh, Uttarakhand, and Madhya Pradesh received a two-month extension.
The AIMPLB General Secretary said that if caretakers in other states approach their tribunals by referring to these decisions, similar relief is expected elsewhere as well.
He also mentioned that the Union Minister for Minority Affairs, Kiren Rijiju, recently assured AIMPLB officials that the central government would take a practical and realistic approach on the issue of uploading Waqf property data and ensure reasonable extensions of time.
The AIMPLB has further urged caretakers, trustees, Muslim organizations, institutions, and the wider Muslim community in states where extensions have already been granted to make full use of this opportunity and complete the uploading process as soon as possible. This, the Board said, would help avoid any penal action under the UMEED Act.
The Board emphasized that caretakers and trustees have a religious, moral, and legal responsibility to properly protect and manage Waqf properties. It called on all concerned to act responsibly and ensure the safety and lawful upkeep of Waqf assets without delay.
