A shocking incident of violence has been reported from Aligarh, where a Muslim meat trader was brutally attacked after being falsely accused of carrying beef. The victim, Sharif Qureshi (42), is said to be in serious condition following the assault.
The incident took place on Saturday, December 20, on Harduaganj Road in Aligarh district. According to Sharif Qureshi, he has been legally running a goat meat business for the last 20–25 years. On the day of the incident, he was returning to his shop after purchasing meat, as he usually does.
He alleged that a group of people riding a car and motorcycles stopped him, accused him of carrying cow meat, and started beating him without listening to his explanation. Qureshi said he tried to show valid bills and official permits, but the attackers tore the documents, snatched his mobile phone and cash, and damaged his motorcycle.
The attackers allegedly beat him with pipes, belts, and bricks, leaving him badly injured.
According to the FIR registered at Harduaganj police station, seven named accused are Anuj Pandit, Shailu Rajput, Naveen Chaudhary, Sameet Thakur, Aditya Hindu, Yashu Pandit, and Prashant Jato, along with 10–12 unidentified persons. Police sources confirmed that two accused have been arrested so far, and further investigation is ongoing.
Police have seized the meat sample and sent it to a Mathura laboratory for testing to confirm its type. Sharif Qureshi suffered serious injuries, including an eight-inch stitched wound on his face. After treatment at JN Medical College, he was discharged and sent home.
Family members expressed concern over justice, pointing out that cases like Dadri, Pehlu Khan, and Nasir–Junaid are still awaiting closure. Local leaders from the Congress and AIMIM have demanded strict action against all those involved in the attack.
