A 55-year-old Muslim truck driver, Azad Khan, has alleged that he was abused, kidnapped, beaten, and forced to pay Rs 1 lakh by a group of extremists while travelling from Rajasthan to Pune. A video from the truck’s in-built camera has gone viral on social media, showing the attackers using religious abuse and threats.

According to Azad Khan, the incident took place on December 5. He said that he slowed down his truck after noticing a tractor parked on the roadside. Soon after, a car stopped in front of his truck and blocked his way.

The men in the car first accused him of hitting their vehicle. Later, they entered the truck, assaulted him, took away the keys, and forcibly took him into a nearby forest area.

Khan alleged that he was severely beaten, due to which he started bleeding from his ear. The attackers demanded Rs 1 lakh and forced him to call the truck owner to arrange the money. He said the attackers falsely claimed that their car’s headlight was damaged, but no such damage is visible in the viral video.

The truck’s CCTV footage, now widely shared online, clearly shows the attackers using abusive and insulting words related to religion.

Khan said that after the police tried to contact the attackers over the phone, they panicked and left him on the roadside before fleeing the spot.

Police officials stated that the vehicle registration number used by the attackers was fake. An investigation is currently underway, and efforts are being made to identify and arrest those involved in the incident.

The case has sparked concern over the safety of truck drivers on highways, especially incidents involving violence and extortion. Authorities have assured that strict action will be taken once the accused are caught.
