In a shocking incident, a widowed mother of two from Madhya Pradesh has alleged that she was cheated of nearly ₹2 crore, gold jewellery, valuable items, and even her pension money by a man she befriended on Facebook.

Friendship on Facebook, Then Marriage

The victim, Amreen Ahmed, originally from Varanasi, works at the NCL Krishnashila project in Singrauli district. After her husband’s death, she was living with her two children.

During this time, she became friends on Facebook with Avinash Yadav from Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh. Their friendship soon turned into a relationship. In February 2024, they travelled to Odisha and got married through a court wedding.

Accused Already Married

Amreen said that after the marriage, Avinash began harassing and assaulting her. She later discovered that Avinash was already married, a fact he had hidden from her before their wedding.

Loss of Money, Jewellery and Pension

According to her complaint, Avinash allegedly took around ₹2 crore, gold ornaments, and other valuables from her. He also reportedly gained control of her pension money through deceit.

FIR Filed, Accused on the Run

As the situation worsened, Amreen filed an FIR at the Singrauli Nagar Police Station. After the case was registered, Avinash Yadav and his family members fled.

Amreen says she fears for her life and has requested police protection.

Appeal for Justice

In her search for justice, Amreen reached Gorakhpur and submitted a written complaint at Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s public grievance meeting (Janta Darbar). She said the CM’s assurance has given her hope.

Singrauli Police have confirmed that an FIR has been registered and said the accused will be arrested soon, with legal action to follow.
