‘Umeed’ Portal Technical Issues Raise Questions; MP Imran Pratapgarhi Demands Deadline Extension

New Delhi | December 4, 2025 | DeccanLive.com

Rajya Sabha MP Imran Pratapgarhi has strongly criticised the central government over the ongoing technical problems in the UMEED Portal, calling it proof of the government’s “bad intention.” He said the glitches are making it difficult to register waqf properties, which may lead to serious loss in the future.

Speaking to the media, Pratapgarhi demanded that the Centre immediately extend the registration deadline and fix all technical issues on the portal. He said the government should ensure that the registration process under the new Waqf Amendment Act is smooth and accessible for all concerned institutions.

“Technical errors show the government’s ill intention”

Pratapgarhi said that while the government claimed in Parliament that it was protecting waqf properties by digitising records, the constant errors on the portal show the opposite.

He questioned whether the technical faults are accidental or created “deliberately,” adding that this matter needs a proper investigation.

Concerns Over the New Waqf Law

He reminded that the Congress had opposed the Waqf Laws 2025 from the beginning. Many organisations and leaders had expected the government to show sincerity while implementing the law.
But the current problems on the portal, especially just before the deadline, have raised doubts about the government’s intentions, he said.

Only 30% Properties Registered

Pratapgarhi revealed that due to multiple reasons, only 30% of waqf properties across India have been registered so far.
He said this shows how urgently the government must extend the deadline and resolve the technical glitches.

He warned that if the process continues like this, waqf properties—which belong to the community and are considered “property of God”—may suffer damage or mismanagement.

Congress Demands Deadline Extension

The Congress MP said the party will continue to demand an extension so that all states can complete the registration process properly. He urged the central government to act responsibly and protect the waqf properties of millions of people across the country.
