The story of Aakriti Goel has become an inspiration for thousands of students across the country. She completed her engineering from BITS Pilani, worked in leadership roles in fast-growing startups, and later decided to leave everything behind to follow her childhood dream of becoming a doctor.
Today, Aakriti is in the final year of MBBS at Hindu Rao Hospital in Delhi. Her journey—shifting from engineering to medicine—is being widely appreciated for showing that it is never too late to start again.
Dream of Becoming a Doctor Since Childhood
Aakriti always wanted to be a doctor. She topped biology in school and scored 94% in Class 12. But due to social pressure and fear of choosing the wrong career, she moved towards engineering. She did not qualify AIPMT at that time, and also didn’t get the results she wanted in IIT or NIT.
Later, she got admission into BITS Pilani, where she started her engineering journey.
Engineering at BITS Pilani
Aakriti pursued a dual degree — MSc Economics and BTech in Electrical & Electronics Engineering (EEE). She scored a perfect 10/10 GPA in Economics, but EEE was tough and challenging. Even after several setbacks, she completed her degree with an excellent 8.8 CGPA.
Successful but Exhausting Startup Career
After graduation, she didn’t take a campus placement and directly entered the startup world.
At Healofy, she worked closely with the CEO and handled major work areas like operations, design, PR, and new initiatives.
The experience made her stronger, but the hectic lifestyle affected her health. In March 2020, just two days after the national lockdown began, she left her job due to health issues.
Returning to Biology and Her Old Dream
After quitting her job, she explored different options—HR consulting, gender studies, law, yoga, and social work.
A career exercise initially suggested she should choose sales, but her heart wasn’t convinced.
Then one day, her childhood dream of becoming a doctor came back strongly. At first, it felt impossible—she worried about age, time, and starting again. But she chose to follow her dream and picked up biology again.
Hard Preparation for NEET
Aakriti began with YouTube lectures and later joined online coaching in August 2020. She studied with discipline—10 hours a day, more than 100 mock tests, and regular revision.
Despite questions and worries from people around her, she kept going.
In 2021, she cleared the NEET exam with AIR 1118.
Now an MBBS Final-Year Student
Aakriti is now in her final year of MBBS, with distinctions in anatomy and microbiology. She also works part-time as a consultant for startups.
On Instagram and YouTube, she runs a community of more than 100,000 followers, where she motivates young people about career restarts, discipline, and confidence.
Known online as engineer_to_doctor, her message is simple:
“Career is not a fixed ladder. It’s a playground. You can start again anytime.”
Her story has become a symbol of courage, reminding people that life doesn’t end with one degree or one job—and that dreams can be followed at any age.
