Historic Move: Maoist Groups to Surrender Arms Collectively on January 1, 2026

In a major development in the Maoist movement, Maoist groups active in Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh have announced that they will collectively surrender their weapons on January 1, 2026 and join the mainstream.

This announcement came through an official letter issued by the group’s spokesperson, known as “Anat.” The letter has drawn wide attention from political and security circles across the country.

According to the statement, the Maoist organisation has become weaker over recent years, especially after senior leaders Milojula and Aashana surrendered, and the infamous commander Hidma was killed in an encounter. The spokesperson said that remaining cadres decided to choose peace after repeated appeals from the Central Government.

The Maoist groups said they want to return to society collectively and with dignity, not through individual surrenders. They added that this will only be possible if the governments of Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh provide clear security guarantees and a transparent rehabilitation programme. They criticised previous rehabilitation schemes, saying they “remained only on paper” and failed to protect those who surrendered.

The organisation has requested all three state governments to stop aggressive operations until January 1, and in return, the Maoists will also stop all armed activity. “We will surrender together on the same day to maintain our unity. This is a collective strategy, not a betrayal of our struggle,” the letter said.

The statement also emphasised that their aim is not just surrender, but a respectful reintegration into society. “Our struggle was always for the people, never against them,” the Maoists said, adding that changing circumstances forced them to choose a peaceful path for the benefit of local communities and the survival of their organisation.

The Maoist groups also appealed to journalists and social leaders to play a positive role during this sensitive transition and avoid creating misunderstanding. For the next month, MMC representatives will remain available on a specific radio frequency for communication, the letter added.
