According to a report by the US news website Axios, Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman turned down US President Donald Trump’s request to join the peace deals with Israel during a high-level meeting between the two countries.
The report states that the US wanted Saudi Arabia to formally normalize ties with Israel, but the Crown Prince firmly rejected the proposal. He repeated Saudi Arabia’s long-standing stance on the Palestinian issue and said that Palestine remains the top priority in Saudi foreign policy.
Prince Mohammed bin Salman made it clear that no talks or normalization with Israel are possible unless Israel accepts the two-state solution and agrees to the creation of a Palestinian state within the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
Axios added that the Crown Prince took a strong and clear position during the meeting, and even US officials described him as a “powerful personality.”
The visit to Washington was made on the instructions of King Salman, following an invitation from President Trump. On 18 November, Prince Mohammed bin Salman met Trump at the White House, where he received a warm welcome.
After the meeting, the Crown Prince addressed the media at the White House and explained Saudi Arabia’s approach to resolving the Middle East conflict. He said Saudi Arabia wants peace for Palestinians, Israelis, and the entire region, and it is working on a clear plan that will push forward real progress toward a two-state solution.
Saudi Arabia maintains that the only path to lasting and comprehensive peace in the region is the creation of an independent Palestinian state, followed by constructive dialogue and peaceful negotiations.
