Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, requesting the central government to extend the deadline for uploading Waqf property records on the UMEED portal by another year.

Currently, the Ministry of Minority Affairs has set December 5, 2025, as the final date for uploading Waqf details. In his letter, the Chief Minister said that the extension is necessary to ensure a comprehensive and error-free registration process.

Revanth Reddy mentioned that the process of uploading Telangana’s Waqf records is already underway, but the state needs additional time to complete it efficiently. He pointed out that technical difficulties and the age-old nature of the records have delayed the process.

He further explained that many Waqf property documents are centuries old and spread across multiple government departments — including the State Archives, Revenue Department, and Endowments Department. Collecting, verifying, and digitizing these records takes considerable time.

The Chief Minister also highlighted three key challenges faced by Waqf institutions:

  1. Many Mutawallis (caretakers) are not familiar with the online UMEED portal’s technical process.
  2. The state government has had to organize training sessions to help them understand registration procedures.
  3. Frequent technical glitches on the UMEED portal have further slowed progress.

Revanth Reddy informed the Prime Minister that although the portal was launched on June 6, it faced several technical problems, including missing data fields for Telangana mandals until October 6, which were fixed only after repeated representations to the Centre.

He emphasized that extending the deadline by one year would allow the Waqf Board and other institutions to complete the registration process transparently and effectively.
