Following heavy rainfall in the upper catchment areas, authorities have opened the floodgates of Osman Sagar (Gandipet) and Himayat Sagar reservoirs near Rajendranagar to release excess water. The decision was made to manage the rising water levels after continuous downpours across the region.

According to the Irrigation Department, 10 gates of Osman Sagar were opened, releasing 2,300 cusecs of water, while 3 gates of Himayat Sagar were lifted to discharge 2,900 cusecs into the downstream areas.

Due to the heavy flow of water, the culvert between Narsingi and Manchirevula started overflowing. As a precautionary measure, officials temporarily suspended traffic movement on the route to prevent any accidents.

Authorities have issued an alert to residents in low-lying areas, urging them to remain cautious and take necessary safety measures as more water is expected to be released depending on rainfall conditions.

Meanwhile, the city’s disaster management teams and local municipal officials have been put on standby to respond to any emergencies arising from the situation.
