Cyclone Montha Hits Telangana: Heavy Rains, Red Alerts Issued, Schools Closed in Several Districts

Cyclone Montha has started affecting Telangana after causing widespread heavy rains in Andhra Pradesh. The Hyderabad Meteorological Centre has warned that the state is likely to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall, and in some areas, extremely heavy rain over the next 24 hours.
According to the Met Department, the cyclone’s impact will be strongest in Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem, and Khammam districts, where red alerts have been issued. These districts are expected to witness thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds reaching speeds of 50–60 km/h.
An orange alert has been announced for Adilabad, Mancherial, Peddapalli, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Nalgonda, Suryapet, Mahabubabad, Warangal, Hanamkonda, Karimnagar, Jagtial, Nirmal, Nagarkurnool, and Vikarabad districts, where heavy to very heavy rainfall is forecast with winds of 40–50 km/h.
A yellow alert has also been issued for Hyderabad, Mancherial, Sangareddy, Jangaon, Jogulamba Gadwal, Medchal, Mahabubnagar, Narayanpet, and Rangareddy districts, warning of moderate rainfall.
Meanwhile, continuous rains have been lashing parts of Mahabubnagar, Warangal, Mahabubabad, Nizamabad, and Hyderabad, disrupting normal life.
In response to the heavy rainfall, district collectors have declared holidays for all educational institutions in Bhadradri Kothagudem and Suryapet.
Bhadradri Kothagudem Collector Jitesh V. Patil issued an official statement declaring a one-day closure for all government, aided, and private schools in the district.
Suryapet Collector Tejas Nand Lal Pawar also announced school holidays, urging residents to stay alert and avoid unnecessary travel.
