Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy made key remarks regarding the proposed hike in cinema ticket prices, emphasizing that 20% of the additional revenue must be allocated to film workers. He stated that film producers are responsible for ensuring the health and welfare of workers in the industry.
Speaking at a felicitation event organized by Telugu film industry workers under the banner of 24 craft unions at Yousufguda Police Grounds, CM Revanth assured his government’s full support for the development of the film sector. Ministers Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, Vivek Venkatswamy, Ponnam Prabhakar, FDC Chairman Dil Raju, and several prominent film personalities attended the event.
Revanth Reddy said,
“Small films are equally important and deserve encouragement. We will implement the Rajiv Arogyasri scheme for film workers to ensure their health protection. Producers must treat workers like their own family members. If ticket prices are increased, 20% of the extra revenue must go into a workers’ welfare fund. Only then will the government issue a GO (Government Order) approving the price hike.”
He further announced that the government would allocate ₹10 crore for the Film Workers’ Welfare Fund and ensure a clear policy framework for workers’ rights by December 9.
“When ticket prices go up, only heroes and producers benefit, but workers don’t gain a single rupee. That’s unfair. From now on, no ticket price hike will be approved unless workers get their fair share. Even the biggest producer must contribute to the welfare fund before the government grants approval,” the CM added.
Revanth Reddy also announced the revival of the Nandi Awards, which had not been given for the past decade. The awards will now be presented in the name of “Praja Yoddha Gaddar” (People’s Warrior Gaddar) as a tribute to the revolutionary singer.
The CM concluded his speech by saying,
“I’ve always admired the character of Karna from the Mahabharata — loyal to his friends till his last breath. Once I make a decision, I stand by it no matter the obstacles. I promise to uphold my duty to protect the interests of film workers.”
