Karnataka Director General of Police (DGP) M. A. Saleem has issued clear instructions to all senior officers and staff members of the state police department to maintain transparency, politeness, and patience in their interactions with the public.
DGP Saleem emphasized that fairness and impartiality should be the foundation of policing. He instructed officers to ensure that public complaints are handled transparently and resolved quickly without bias or misuse of authority.
The DGP particularly highlighted the importance of handling women’s complaints with care and sensitivity. He directed that female police officers must be involved in investigations related to women, and that male officers should be extremely cautious when questioning women. He further stated that summoning women to police stations after 6 p.m. is strictly prohibited.
DGP Saleem warned that misbehavior or rude conduct during complaint registration will not be tolerated. He instructed that every police station must maintain detailed records of registered cases and that officers should adopt a courteous and respectful tone when dealing with citizens.
He also advised all officers to avoid misuse of power, ensure transparency in investigations, and work sincerely to rebuild public trust.
“Policing is not just about controlling crime,” said DGP Saleem. “It is also about earning the confidence of the people. The police must prioritize citizens’ concerns and resolve them promptly to create an environment of trust and satisfaction.”
He concluded by urging police personnel to perform their duties with honesty, patience, and dedication, ensuring stronger relations between the police and the public.
