The recent firing incident in Hyderabad’s Chaderghat area has sparked debate and concern among citizens and political leaders. The All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) has demanded an independent and impartial investigation into the case.
According to reports, on October 25, police opened fire on a man identified as Umar Ansari, who was allegedly involved in a mobile-snatching attempt and later attacked a police officer while trying to escape.
Sources said DCP (South East) S. Chaitanya Kumar fired at Ansari in self-defence after the accused allegedly pulled out a knife. Ansari was struck by two bullets and was immediately rushed to Care Hospital, where he is currently undergoing treatment.
Police said that Umar Ansari is a rowdy-sheeter from Kalapathar Police Station limits and has more than 20 criminal cases registered against him.
However, the firing has drawn criticism from various quarters, raising questions about the use of force and police accountability.
AIMIM MLA Mohammed Mubeen visited the hospital and met the injured man. He urged the government to conduct a fair and independent inquiry into the incident to uncover the truth.
“It is important that an impartial investigation be conducted so that justice is served,” said MLA Mubeen, emphasizing transparency and accountability in policing.
The incident has reignited debate over police powers and citizens’ rights — with many questioning whether the firing was justified or an instance of excessive force.
