Hyderabad: DCP Sai Chaithanya Opens Fire at Thieves in Chaderghat

A tense situation unfolded in Hyderabad’s Chaderghat area on Saturday (25 October) after a dramatic shooting incident involving a senior police officer. According to reports, two thieves attempted to snatch a mobile phone when South-East Zone Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Sai Chaitanya arrived at the spot.
When the DCP tried to catch them, one of the accused allegedly attacked him with a knife. In the scuffle, the DCP’s gunman lost balance and fell to the ground. Acting swiftly, DCP Sai Chaitanya took control of his gunman’s weapon and fired in self-defence.
Sources said the DCP fired two rounds, injuring one of the thieves. The injured suspect was immediately shifted to Nampally Hospital for treatment, while the second accused managed to escape from the scene.
City Police Commissioner S. Sajjanar confirmed to the media that one of the suspects was injured in the incident, while DCP Chaitanya and his team are safe.
Police have cordoned off the area and launched a search operation to nab the absconding thief. The incident caused brief panic in the Chaderghat area, but the situation returned to normal after quick police action.
