Former BJP MP Pragya Singh Thakur has once again stirred controversy with her provocative remarks. In a viral video, she can be heard advising Hindu parents to “break the legs” of their daughters if they are found in relationships with non-Hindu men.
Thakur, who is known for her inflammatory statements, said:
“Keep your heart and mind strong. If your daughter tries to go with someone from another religion, do not hesitate to break her legs. Daughters who do not respect our culture deserve physical punishment.”
She went on to add that a newborn girl is considered a form of Goddess Lakshmi, but if that same girl grows up and “becomes someone’s Miya (Muslim’s wife),” then parents should punish her.
This latest statement has sparked widespread criticism and debate. Many have recalled that the BJP had already denied her a ticket for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, despite her major victory against Congress leader Digvijaya Singh in 2019.
Thakur has a history of making controversial comments. In 2019, she courted massive outrage by praising Nathuram Godse, the assassin of Mahatma Gandhi, prompting Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself to say that he would “never forgive her.”
Congress leader KK Mishra slammed her recent remarks, asking:
“Will she also break the legs of the daughters of BJP and RSS leaders who married non-Hindus?”
The comment has further fueled the political storm surrounding Thakur’s statement, raising questions about her rhetoric and its impact on social harmony.
