Heavy Rains Create Havoc in Kamareddy – Floods, Cars Swept Away

Kamareddy, 28 August – (www.deccanlive.com): Continuous heavy rains have caused massive floods in Kamareddy district, Telangana. Overflowing ponds, streams, and lakes have submerged low-lying areas, leaving people trapped in water.

Rajampet mandal’s Argonda village recorded the highest rainfall of 43.1 cm, while Nirmal’s Akkapur received 32.3 cm and Medak’s Sardana reported 30.2 cm. Authorities have issued a Red Alert for Kamareddy and Medak districts.

Floodwaters entered colonies and villages across Kamareddy and Ellareddy constituencies, disrupting normal life. In Kamareddy town, water gushed through streets, forcing residents indoors.

The rising water forced officials to close National Highway 44 temporarily. On the Kamareddy–Bikkanur route, floodwater damaged railway tracks, halting train services. Several vehicles were also washed away.

Thousands of acres of farmland are under water, damaging crops. Schools and colleges have been declared closed, and Telangana University exams postponed.

NDRF teams rescued families from submerged GR Colony in Kamareddy and moved them to relief camps. Stranded motorists on the highway were also shifted to safer places. Authorities are using drones to drop food to people stuck in floods and urged citizens to stay indoors unless absolutely necessary.

Political leaders including PCC chief Mahesh Kumar Goud and district in-charge minister Seethakka are scheduled to visit the flood-affected areas today.
