Unbelievable: Baby Bites Cobra to Death in Bihar

Patna, 29 July – (www.deccanlive.com): A one-year-old boy, Govind Kumar, from a village in Bihar has made headlines after reportedly killing a cobra by biting it.
According to his grandmother, Govind was playing in the garden while his mother was working nearby when he grabbed the snake and bit it. “Soon after biting the cobra, the child became unconscious, and we rushed him to a local hospital,” she said.
Dr. Kumar Saurabh, who treated the boy, said the child had swelling on his face, especially around the mouth. He explained that when a cobra bites a human, its venom enters the bloodstream and can cause neurotoxicity, potentially leading to death. However, when a human bites a cobra, the venom passes through the digestive system where it becomes largely harmless unless there are internal wounds.
India is home to nearly 300 species of snakes, over 60 of which are venomous, with the cobra being one of the most dangerous.
According to the World Health Organization, snakebites kill between 81,000 to 138,000 people globally each year. In India alone, an average of 58,000 deaths were reported annually between 2000 and 2019 due to snakebites. Health authorities say the actual number may be higher due to underreporting in remote areas with poor access to medical care.
Doctors confirmed that the child is now out of danger and recovering well.
