Personal Education Number (PEN) to be Printed on Inter Students’ Marks Memos

Hyderabad, 24 July – (www.deccanlive.com): The Ministry of Education has directed all states to assign a Personal Education Number (PEN) to every student as part of the ‘One Nation – One Student ID’ initiative. This permanent 11-digit number will stay with students throughout their education, from pre-primary to higher studies, including research and skill development.

The PEN will serve as a reference for tracking students’ academic progress and will help authorities monitor students even if they migrate to another state or region. It will also be useful for admissions, scholarships, exams, and employment.

For the 2025–26 academic year, the Telangana Intermediate Education Department has been instructed to print the PEN on nominal rolls, hall tickets, and marks memos of Inter students. This will allow education authorities to closely track students’ progress.

Additionally, the Unified District Information System for Education (UDISE) will make it mandatory to register the details of students from Class 1 to Intermediate. Reports indicate that 94,806 Intermediate students’ data in Telangana are not yet recorded in UDISE, which could impact the state’s Gross Enrollment Ratio (GER) in national statistics.

To address this, the Education Department has ordered the registration of all Intermediate students in UDISE. In Telangana’s 430 government junior colleges, details of 1.5 lakh Inter students will be recorded through the Facial Recognition System (FRS). This process is expected to begin within two weeks.
