Alien-like Baby Born in Madhya Pradesh, Struggling to Breathe; Condition Critical

Rewa – Madhya Pradesh, 24 July – (www.deccanlive.com): In a rare and shocking case, a baby resembling an “alien” has been admitted to a hospital in Madhya Pradesh. The newborn, suffering from severe breathing difficulties, has been placed on oxygen support.

Doctors at Gandhi Memorial Hospital in Rewa say the baby is affected by Collodion disease, a rare condition in which the skin becomes abnormally thick and develops deep cracks. This makes the child appear very different from normal babies and poses a high risk of infections.

The infant, from Raipur Sonari village in Chakghat, is currently being treated in the hospital’s Special Newborn Care Unit (SNCU). Doctors report that the baby’s condition remains critical, and a team of pediatricians and dermatologists is providing specialized treatment.

Dr. Karan Joshi, a pediatric specialist from Shyam Shah Medical College, explained that Collodion disease cases are extremely rare, with only two to three such cases reported in a year. “These babies require intensive care. The skin is extremely delicate and needs special attention to prevent infections,” he said, adding that lack of timely treatment can sometimes turn the condition life-threatening.

Collodion disease can be genetic or non-genetic, and managing it involves specialized skin care and continuous medical supervision.

This unusual birth has become a topic of discussion among locals, with many shocked by the baby’s appearance and the severity of the condition.
